COVID-19 Patient Information

Welcome to Cornell Optometry.

Thank you for choosing us for your eye care needs. In light of COVID -19 and as recommended by The College of Optometrists, we have made a few changes to our office procedures. These changes will help allow us to keep our staff, doctors, patients, families, and community safe. If you would like to make an appointment or have an appointment coming up, please take a few minutes to read this section.

MASKS: We kindly ask all patients to please wear a mask at all times while in the office. A clean reusable cloth mask is acceptable. Our doctors and staff will be wearing theirs as well.

CLEAN HANDS: When you arrive and before you leave, we will ask you to please clean your hands with hand sanitizer, which we will provide for you at the front desk. Our doctors and staff will be washing their hands before and after every patient interaction.

SOCIAL DISTANCING: Due to social distancing guidelines, only the person with the appointment will be allowed to come into the office. Children and individuals who require assistance can certainly be accompanied by one adult.
We will no longer be able to accommodate walk-in patients or walk-in glasses and or contact lens pick-ups. All patients must have an appointment prior to coming into the office.

COVID-19 SCREENING: All patients will be pre-screened for symptoms of COVID-19 at the time of booking their appointment and upon arrival of their appointment.

YOUR APPOINTMENT TIME: Please call us before entering the office to ensure it is safe to do so. At that time, we will update your file and take down your private insurance information should you wish for us to bill your benefits on your behalf. We kindly ask you to wait in your car or outside the office until we can ensure it is safe for you to enter our office.

To minimize exposure and maintain social distancing, we will be modifying our schedule. We kindly ask all patients to please be on time to their scheduled appointment. This will allow us time to disinfect all areas prior to the arrival of the next patient. Unfortunately, late arrivals will not be seen as it will not give us enough time for your appointment and disinfecting the office prior to the next patient. Late arrivals will be subject to the office No-show/missed appointment fee.

Many of you have waited weeks for us to re-open and others will need to wait a little longer. If you need to cancel your appointment, we kindly ask for 48 hours’ notice. By giving us advance notice of your cancellation, we will be able to accommodate those who are waiting and those who need emergency appointments. In response to this, we will be implementing a $50 no-show/missed appointment fee for any appointment that is missed or not canceled without 24 hours advance notice.

FRAMES: If you would like to try on any of our frames from our frame studio, please ask one of our team members for help. To reduce potential exposure, we will be providing white-glove service. All frames will only be handled by one of our team members. Once you are done trying on frames, they will be placed to the side. All frames will be cleaned thoroughly before being put back into our frame studio.

PROTECTIVE BARRIERS: We have added new plexiglass barriers at our front desk, as well as on some of our equipment. This will provide added protection to both you and us.

FREQUENCY OF CLEANING: Our team will be doing a thorough clean before we start the day and at the end of the day. All high-frequency touchpoints will be cleaned in between patients- that includes all Optometry equipment, Dr. Ajani’s entire exam room, debit pin pad, front desk, all door handles, and frames.

Please be patient with us. This is our new normal and we too are trying the best we can to ensure everyone’s safety. We will try our very best to accommodate everyone in a timely manner.
