Proper eye care is important for people of all ages and regular eye exams are encouraged for everyone, but especially for those already using glasses or contact lenses. Your vision plays a vital role in your life each and every day, which is why it is so important to take the right steps for maintaining good eye health. At Cornell Optometry we provide a variety of eye care services, from general exams to myopia management. We also carry a wide selection of eye frames for our patients as well.
Dr. Serena Ajani received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto with an emphasis in Biology. She then went on to receive her Doctor of Optometry degree from the Southern College of Optometry where she was a scholarship recipient each year. During her internship rotations, Dr. Ajani received extensive training in diagnosing and treating eye diseases such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, and macular degeneration, Dr. Ajani is certified by both the Board of Examiners of Optometry in Canada and the use of Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents (TPA). She is also accredited in the United States by the National Board of Examiners (NBEO) and the Treatment and Management of Ocular Diseases (TMOD).
Dr. Ajani is professionally trained and experienced in eye health and eye care with a specialization in pediatric and diabetic eye evaluations.
Dr. Ajani provides comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages. she can assist you with eyeglasses and contact lenses as well as diagnosing, treating, and managing specific eye diseases or ocular emergencies such as pink eye, bacterial infections, and corneal abrasions.
Dr. Ajani is an active member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists (CAO) and the Ontario Association of Optometrists (OAO).
Since graduating in 2007, Dr. Ajani has been a part of both private and commercial practices. In December 2012, with the support of her husband, then 2-year-old daughter, and family, she opened up Cornell Optometry, a full scope Optometric clinic providing eye care for the whole family.
Dr. Ajani now has two beautiful little girls, ages 14 and 9. She has been a resident of Markham for the last 15 years and is proud to be part of the Cornell Community.
Rachel
Rachel has been with us for almost one year now. You’ll find Rachel helping at the front desk, answering phone calls and emails. Rachel is also our contact lens assistant. Once Dr. Ajani has completed the contact lens fit, Rachel helps teach the patient insertion and removal of the contact lenses. During her spare time, Rachel enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
Christine
Christine has been part of the Cornell Family for the last 4 years. You’ll find her answering your phone calls, responding to your emails, ordering contact lenses, and helping you pick that perfect frame for that perfect outfit. When she has a few moments during lunch, you’ll catch her having intense conversations on life and Netflix over a cup of hot tea with Dr. Ajani .
Suzette
Suzette recently joined Cornell Optometry in 2020 and has over 20 years of experience in the industry. She has a Bachelor of Science in Management and is also certified in contact lens fitting and dispensing. Suzette has a deep passion for providing exceptional customer service and has a keen eye for understanding what patients need. She is also highly trained to perform a variety of tests such as VF, Heideburg, OCT & RDI. In addition, she has 10yrs of experience working with children teaching and fitting Ortho-k lenses.
As a part-time staff member she dedicates a lot of her time to her son and volunteering. Suzette enjoys hiking, watching movies, travelling, and playing board games with her husband and son.

Dr. Roshani Gnanaseelan has been a resident of the Markham community for over 20 years. She received her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Waterloo. She then attended the New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts, where she received her Doctorate of Optometry. During her clinical rotations, Dr. Gnanaseelan has trained in various hospital settings, Boston community health centers and private practices.
Upon graduating Optometry school, Dr. Gnanaseelan was selected to complete a competitive residency program in Cornea and Contact Lens at the New England College of Optometry. She trained in the application and fitting of specialty contact lenses for myopia management as well as managing ocular surface and/or corneal diseases. Dr. Gnanaseelan has trained in many prestigious institutions throughout her residency such as Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Boston Medical Center, and Boston Foundation for Sight.
Dr. Gnanaseelan is also fluent in Tamil and looks forward to serving the Cornell community! Dr. Gnanaseelan is very excited to provide comprehensive eye care as well as specialty contact lens service, including orthokeratology and other myopia management. In her spare time, she enjoys being surrounded by friends and family, travelling, as well as trying new food!
Dr. Kar Man Cheung’s top priorities are your eyes and your vision. With a reputation of being detail-oriented and patient, she will listen to your concerns and strive to provide the highest quality of care.
Dr. Cheung completed her Bachelor of Science at the University of Toronto. Subsequently, she studied in Boston and received her Doctorate of Optometry with honours at the New England College of Optometry. She completed her clinical externships across North America – with specialties in pediatrics, contact lenses, and ocular diseases. She is licensed to practice in both Canada and the United States and is Therapeutic pharmaceutical agents (TPA) certified.
After graduation, Dr. Cheung has been practicing in her hometown of Markham and surrounding GTA. Her areas of focus are preventative eye health and myopia control. In her spare time, Dr. Cheung enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 young children. You can often find them biking around the neighbourhood or eating out at their favourite restaurants.
